WWE signed Shinsuke Nakamura more than three years ago and even though The King Of Strong Style found a lot of success in NXT when he first signed, he hasn’t been able to mirror that during his time on the main roster.

Recently Nakamura has failed to lift the WWE Championship on four occasions in his recent bouts with AJ Styles but has instead been handed the United States Championship, even though he currently doesn’t have a challenger heading into SummerSlam.

According to The Wrestling Observer, New Japan Pro Wrestling is looking to resign Nakamura since his contract is set to expire very soon. WWE themselves have shown interest in NJPW’s top stars including Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and former WWE star Cody Rhodes, whose contracts are set to expire in earlier 2019. This means that if WWE is able to sign some of the promotion’s top stars then the Japanese promotion could request someone in return, which could be Nakamura.

It would be hard for Nakamura not to be disappointed with the past year since many believed that he was heading towards the WWE Championship. Dave Meltzer did add that he doesn’t think that Nakamura would leave WWE since his family is now settled in the country, WWE helped his wife to find work and his style has been toned down in recent years

The Japanese star would probably welcome the return to his native country where he found a lot of success in his earlier career, but since he’s the United States Champion currently, it could be the start of a huge boost for The Artist on the main roster in the coming months.
