Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger (now Jake Hager) is keeping a keen eye on AEW.
Hager, who is currently pursuing an MMA career in Bellator, recently appeared on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show and hinted that he could potentially ink a deal with AEW in the future.
“We’ve spoken, and I think that will progress in the future. As of now, I can’t tell you.I definitely want to be a part of [AEW] but I have been busy with training camps and talks haven’t gotten to that point yet.”
The fact that Hager is already in talks with AEW shouldn’t come off as a surprise given he used to share the WWE locker room with Cody Rhodes and Chris Jericho back in the day. Matter of fact, it was then-WWE World Heavyweight Champion Y2J himself who had spearheaded the plan of Swagger cashing in the Money In The Bank contract against him to win the prestigious gold 9 years ago.
Hager left WWE in 2017 and switched to MMA. Emerging victorious in his Bellator debut fight, the Real American picked up his second consecutive win over T.J. Jones last weekend.
If Hager signs with AEW in the near future, it would be exciting to see him work a dual schedule between Bellator and WWE – a feat that would place him on the same pedestal as that of WWE-UFC cross-over athlete Brock Lesnar.
Hager has had a thunderous start in MMA unlike ex-WWE Superstar CM Punk who lost his first two fights in UFC (0-2) and is currently speculated to have silently quit the Octagon despite being under contract with the promotion.
While there is every chance of Hager potentially signing with AEW, the possibility of WWE offering him a bigger contract to bring him back cannot be ruled out. However, it doesn’t seem like Hager has any intention of going back to Vince McMahon’s promotion ever again.
