Asuka is the reigning <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="SmackDown (opens in a new tab)" href="https://api.wrestlingworld.co/reviews/smackdown" target="_blank">SmackDown</a> Women&#8217;s Champion but her journey to the top hasn&#8217;t been a smooth one for The Empress had to defeat two mighty opponents namely, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch to capture the title at TLC last year.



Asuka made her WWE main roster debut in October 2017 and enjoyed her undefeated run for the next few months till WrestleMania. The Empress also won the first season of Mixed Match Challenge along with her partner, The Miz.

On <a href="https://omny.fm/shows/the-ross-report/all-elite-wrestling-s-brandi-rhodes" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="The Ross Report (opens in a new tab)">The Ross Report</a>, WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross took a jab at WWE management noting how the company has mismanaged Asuka.

I thought Asuka… the ball was dropped last year at WrestleMania after she lost her undefeated streak to Charlotte. They had a great match. It [has] been hard to get the momentum back going.”</blockquote>

At WrestleMania 34, Charlotte defeated Asuka, ending her long unbeaten streak. The Empress&#8217; gimmick cooled down thereafter and she soon slipped to the mid-card territory.

Although a large portion of Asuka&#8217;s push goes to the Ronda Rousey-Lynch-Flair storyline, the fact that she is one of the most hard-hitting and talented Superstars in the women&#8217;s division is absolutely undeniable.



The Empress made her WrestleMania debut as a challenger last year. This time she will be walking into the Show of Shows with the championship gold around her waist. Asuka&#8217;s opponent for April 7 is yet to be announced.
