This week’s episode of Raw saw the announcement of two entrants into the WWE World Cup to be held during the Crown Jewel pay-per-view.
Fresh from a victory at Super Show-Down, Cena was officially announced as an entrant into the World Cup tournament.
Also announced on Raw, by acting Raw General Manager Baron Corbin, was a Global Battle Royal, featuring unique talent from all over the world. The winner of the Global Battle Royal would also get a slot in the World Cup.
The participants in the Global Battle Royal were mostly unknown, except for the representative of the United States, who was Acting General Manager Corbin himself.
It seemed like Corbin’s scheme to get into the World Cup tournament was working as he was dominating the match, until a mysterious masked competitor called the “Conquistador” stole victory from under Corbin’s nose.
Who was that mysterious masked wrestler? Well, we didn’t have to wait long to find out that it was WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle. Angle has been absent from WWE TV since he had been forced to “go on vacation” by Stephanie McMahon and replaced by Acting General Manager Corbin.
Now, having served some comeuppance to Corbin, Angle stands poised to add another accolade to his list of accolades, first winner of the World Cup tournament, if he can best Cena and the other entrants.
The World Cup Tournament will be held for the first time during WWE Crown Jewel. It will feature eight superstars from both Raw and SmackDown. Two qualifying matches have been announced for tonight’s SmackDown: Jeff Hardy vs. Samoa Joe and Randy Orton vs. The Big Show.
