John Cena recently gave an interview to Sports Illustrated where he named his pick for best in-ring performer of all time.
Cena is a sixteen-time world champion who has been in the ring with some of the best and most legendary performers in the business. But his pick of who is the best in-ring performer of all time might surprise many.
“I can say with the utmost sincerity that I believe Brock Lesnar is best in-ring performer that I’ve seen and I know it’s an opinion, and if you want a cool quote, here it is: I think he’s the best in-ring performer of all time,” said Cena.
Cena’s comments about Lesnar as a performer came during a larger discussion on the recently concluded Royal Rumble pay-per-view where Lesnar, who is currently the WWE Champion, dominated the first half of the men’s Rumble match.
Cena was all praise for Lesnar’s work in the Rumble, calling it a “clinic” on how to establish oneself and also emphasize the importance of an event.
“I genuinely think he has a good understanding of who he is. I think he’s the best at when he needs to be dominant, he’s the best in situations of jeopardy,” said Cena.
He pointed out that, while the crowd at first seemed uneasy with Lesnar dominating the ring, they got into it and found it exciting and he credits Lesnar for that.
“He has such a definable presence you can’t ignore him and he never wastes anyone’s time and everything he does is special and everything he does meaningful and it’s not all selfish. He’s one of the most giving performers in the WWE and that is the mark of a true craftsman and a true professional,” said Cena.
