During a recent interview with the NBC affiliate in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, NXT superstar Johnny Gargano spoke about a recent encounter he had with WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels.
On last Monday’s RAW, Gargano was talking with Shawn Michaels, who was on the show for Ric Flair’s 70th birthday. The two began talking about how Michael’s is known as Mr. WrestleMania for his show stealing way’s during the WWE’s biggest pay-per-view.
“He’s Mr. WrestleMania, and I’m Mr. Takeover, and I take great pride in being Mr. Takeover,” said Gargano.
“Every, single Takeover, I’m like, ‘I’m going to give the people something they never forget, and yeah, NXT, man, it holds a special place in my heart,” explained Gargano.
He also talked more about how much he loves being part of NXT and about the “unspoken competition” among NXT superstars to have the best matches they can and give their fans moments that they will never forget.
“It’s an incredibly talented locker room filled with guys that are able to go out and steal the show at any given notice. You kind of look at our Takeovers, and there’s five main events. Like every, single match is a main event, which is pretty crazy when you think about it. It’s unspoken, but all of us go out there and we try to give the people their money’s worth and nothing will stop us from doing that,” said Gargano.
Gargano is still an NXT superstar, though he’s also made his main roster debut, having appeared on the RAW and SmackDown after Extreme Rules alongside Tommaso Ciampa. The two had successful tag bouts against The Revival and The Bar.
According to Gargano, he only found out about his RAW and SmackDown appearances a few days before they occurred.
“I was actually in Cleveland when I got the call that I was going to be on Raw and SmackDown. I was at my mom’s house and it was in the morning. They said, ‘Hey, you’re going to be on Raw and SmackDown in a couple days,’ which is pretty crazy” shared Gargano.
