The IWGP US Heavyweight Championship will be defended for the first time in a year this February.
Current champion Jon Moxley will face KENTA in a championship match that will be the main event of NJPW New Beginning USA 2021.
The Moxley vs. KENTA match has been brewing for some time now, ever since KENTA won the right to challenge Moxley for his title last August.
Moxley had won the championship during Wrestle Kingdom 14 in January 2020 but had been unable to defend it due to travel restrictions put in place due to COVID-19.
Things came to a head during NJPW Strong: Lion’s Break Contender, where Moxley came out to challenge KENTA after the latter was in a match.
NJPW Strong New Beginning USA 2021 will occur over four Friday nights in February. The Moxley vs. KENTA match is set for February 26.
Other matches that have been announced for the event are the following:
- February 5: TJP and Rey Horus for the first time ever
- February 12: Tag match between Chris Dickinson and Danny Limelight and TJP and Ren Narita
- February 19: El Phantasmo vs. Lio Rush.
