Triple Mania XXVIII may be AAA’s biggest show of the year, but it was AEW talent that stood tall at the end of the night.
Current AEW World Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega has expressed an interest in becoming a “belt collector”, and he currently has two.
Aside from the AEW World Heavyweight Championship, Omega has held the AAA Mega Championship since he defeated his fellow AEW talent Fenix for it during the Heroes Imortales XIII event on October 19, 2019.
Omega retained the AAA Mega Championship at Triplemania XXVIII, against the Laredo Kid. The Cleaner took advantage of a distraction caused by his ally Michael Nakazawa to land his finisher, the One-Winged Angel, to get the pin and the win.
Meanwhile, the Lucha Brothers, Fenix & Pentagon Jr., hold the AAA Tag Team Championships, which they won at the Veran de Escandalo event on June 16, 2019. They defeated The Young Bucks for the titles.
At Triple Mania XXVIII, the Lucha Brothers successfully defended their titles in a three-way match from Texano Jr. and Rey Escorpión and Myzteziz Jr. & Octagon Jr.
Pentagon was recently kayfabe injured during an AEW Dynamite match to cover for an actual injury he suffered during training. This played into the triple-threat match when he was initially escorted to the back after Escorpion hit his injured leg with a bat.
Pentagon returned, however, to superkick Myzteziz before the brothers were able to hit their signature butt stomp package piledriver to get the pin and the win.
