On September 4, Kevin Kelly and The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) filed a lawsuit against AEW, challenging the company&#8217;s classification of its wrestling talent as independent contractors instead of employees. 



The suit seeks to void the arbitration clause in their contracts and requests a class-action status for other wrestlers similarly classified. Stephen P. New, their attorney, commended the plaintiffs&#8217; bravery and vowed to fight for justice.

AEW declined to comment on the lawsuit, as is standard with ongoing litigation. AEW PR commented in a statement to Sports Illustrated&#8217;s The Takedown.

Kelly, who briefly worked for AEW as a play-by-play announcer, was released in March 2024. The Boys were released in April, with Tony Khan claiming they no-showed bookings, a claim the wrestlers denied.
