Kevin Owens Explains Why He Changed His Ring Attire

Kevin Owens qualified for Team SmackDown for Survivor Series last Friday.

During the last episode of SmackDown, Owens faced Dolph Ziggler in a Survivor Series qualifying match. Owens triumphed over Ziggler, but aside from his victory, what some fans noticed was his ring attire.

Since Owens debuted for WWE in NXT, he has mostly wrestled in long basketball shorts and his merch t-shirts with the sleeves cut off. During the match with Ziggler, however, he was wearing dark jeans.

Owens took to Twitter after the show to respond to fans questioning his “new” ring attire, and why he shouldn’t wear jeans as “one of the most successful wrestlers of all time wore jorts for most of his career.”

Owens is referring to multiple-time WWE Champion John Cena who, aside from his debut, has indeed always either worn jorts or long cargo shorts to the ring.

“I’m trying to get there,” joked Owens. “First, I wear shorts for years. Then I wear jeans for years. Then, one day, BOOM! JORTS!”

Owens has been vocal about being a wrestling fan before becoming a wrestler and is vocal about expressing admiration for other wrestlers. He already uses the “Stunner” which was made famous by Stone Cold Steve Austin, so why not take costume cues from the future legend he had his first match against?
