Looks like a kayfabe attack might be a cover for Kevin Owens to get some time off to deal with a real injury.
Whether the vicious attack from Bobby Lashley to Owens during the last episode of RAW (Oct 8) is just a heel turn for Lashley or the start of a rare double heel turn for both men, it seems like we’re going to have to wait to see what Owen’s does next.
WWE.com is reporting that, because of an injury to both knees, Owens is going to be out of the WWE Mixed Match Challenge: Season 2.
Two sources, Dave Metzler of the Wrestling Observer and John Pollock of POST Wrestling, both say that their sources have said that Owens is taking time off for knee surgery. But they differ as to how long Owens will be gone.
According to Pollock, “Owens is not expected to miss too much time, so it doesn’t appear to be a major injury.”
Metzler on the other hand states, “In actuality they won’t know the severity of the knee problems until he goes into surgery and that will determine the seriousness of the surgery.” Because of that, there is no estimated time frame as to when Owens will be back.
Owens was part of Team Paws, along with Natalya. Lashley is also in the Mixed Match Challenge, partnering with Mickie James as part of team Country Dominance.
No official word as to who will be teaming with Natalya now, but her Season 1 Mixed Match Challenge Partner, current United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura has indicated that he is willing to step up:
