Monday Night on Raw, the WWE Universe witnessed a rare double turn when Bobby Lashley turned heel on Kevin Owens and targeted his injured knee both throughout the match and after the bell had rung.
It was recently reported that Lashley’s heel turn was a late decision backstage because Owens was injured and the company needed him to be written off TV. Lio Rush was then fed all of his lines at ringside by Vince McMahon himself as he helped The Dominator to turn heel for the first time since his return.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Owens could be out of action for around four months, which means that the former Universal Champion won’t return to the company until WrestleMania season as he struggles with his knee injury.
Kevin Owens and Natalya were chosen as a Mixed Match Challenge team a few weeks ago and due to this injury, Owens has been forced out of the competition and WWE only recently announced that he will be replaced by Bobby Roode.
The Mixed Match Challenge has been somewhat cursed over the past few weeks since Alexa Bliss, Sasha Banks and Kevin Owens have all been taken off the show and replaced by Ember Moon, Mickie James and Bobby Roode and the competition has only been on-going for a few weeks.
Owens has been written off WWE TV now for the foreseeable future and the favored rumor right now is that both Owens and his longtime friend Sami Zayn could make their return to the company at the same time in 2019.
Zayn was sidelined back in the summer after suffering two torn rotator cuffs which both required surgery.
