Will Kofi Kingston Fight For The WWE Championship At WrestleMania 35?

The WWE Universe were once again swerved last night on SmackDown Live when Vince McMahon made the announcement that Kevin Owens would be the man gaining the shot at the WWE Championship at Fastlane rather than Kofi Kingston.

Kingston was already granted the shot at Daniel Bryan last week, but The Chairman overruled that decision and put the returning former Universal Champion in his place.

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, this was a late change of plan since original plans saw Owens taking on Bryan at WrestleMania but now the company could be pushing for #KofiMania as well.

“It appears that they flip-flopped Kevin Owens and Kofi Kingston. Because it was very clear that they’re going to do Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston and if they’re not gonna do it at Fastlane and Kevin Owens is getting the shot at Fastlane then that probably means that Kofi Kingston is getting the shot at Mania,” he said via Ringsidenews.

“So that’s changed again in the last week because Kevin Owens was the one getting the shot at Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania in the original plans. So maybe they didn’t wanna beat Kofi Kingston and because of the way the plans were if Daniel Bryan fought Kofi Kingston they would have to beat Kofi Kingston so maybe they wanna put Kofi Kingston over?”

SmackDown Brings In A Number Of Fastlane Changes

This week on SmackDown Live a number of changes were made to the Fastlane card since Kofi Kingston was taken out of their main Championship match and replaced by Kevin Owens.

This has now been reflected on the official card for the show, while Asuka‘s SmackDown Women’s Championship defense against Mandy Rose has also been confirmed.

This means that there are currently four matches official for Fastlane which takes place in less than two weeks time. The full card is as follows:

  • Asuka vs Mandy Rose – SmackDown Women’s Championship Match.
  • Daniel Bryan vs Kevin Owens – WWE Championship Match.
  • The Usos vs Shane McMahon & The Miz – SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match.
  • The Boss n Hug Connection vs Nia Jax & Tamina – Women’s Tag Team Championship Match.
