It’s been a fantastic few months for Kofi Kingston, who realized his dream of becoming WWE Champion back at WrestleMania 35 and has since been able to return home with WWE’s most prestigious Championship.
Kingston steps into a steel cage against Dolph Ziggler this weekend at Stomping Grounds after already defeating the former World Champion at Super ShowDown. Xavier Woods was on hand to help him secure the win, which is why it was decided that a steel cage was the best way to keep the members of The New Day away from the match and guarantee Ziggler a fair shot at the Champion.
Ahead of what could be Stomping Grounds’ main event, Kofi Kingston talked to ACWrestling where he was asked about his favorite tag team partner, where he brought up former World Champion CM Punk and how much he helped him in his early career.
“I was Tag Team Champions with CM Punk, which was awesome because I learned so much from him. He was one of the guys who took me under his wing when he didn’t have to. I was always grateful for that friendship. Being tag team partners with R-Truth is always fun. He’s always making you laugh. Every moment we had together was always fun. Evan Bourne, same thing. Super cool and athletic. We would try to out-do each other. It was an awesome experience to see him up-close-and-personal. I can’t possibly pick a favorite,” he revealed via Fightful.
It became a well-known fact that CM Punk and Kofi Kingston were best friends since the company punished Kingston following Punk’s exit, but it wasn’t well known that the self-proclaimed Best in the World had taken Kingston under his wing when they were Champions and he had helped him push forward as part of the company.
