Kofi Kingston and Big E successfully retained the SmackDown Tag Team Championship against The Revival in a Ladder Match at WWE TLC. Kofimania reigned supreme as Kingston fought Scott Dawson off the top of the ladder to retrieve the titles.
On the latest episode of The New Day’s Feel The Power podcast, Kofi revealed that he has signed a new 5-year deal with WWE.
“As far as running down the field, my son will kick the ball and it’s ten yards away from me and I’m trying to sprint to it and I’m literally putting all my weight on one leg, and I’m hobbling to try to get over there. We’re just kicking the ball around, man. I can’t do it, I can’t do it right now, you know what I’m saying? And I’m not done. I just signed another five-year contract, so we got five years. Who knows what my body is going to be like in those five years?”
Kingston will turn 43 by the time his new contract expires. Whether or not he continues to wrestle after that is anyone’s guess, but for now, it’s in the best interests of WWE to use him to his maximum potential over the next 5 years.
At WrestleMania 35, Kingston defeated Daniel Bryan to capture the WWE Championship for the first time in his career. Over the course of his reign, the Ghanaian-American never headlined a single pay-per-view event. He lost the title to Brock Lesnar during the Friday Night SmackDown premiere on FOX.
The latest rumors suggest that Kingston and Big E will be walking into Royal Rumble 2020 with the tag team gold around their waists. However, some fans are of the opinion that the duo will drop the titles ahead of the first PPV of the new year in order to set themselves up as the top contenders at WrestleMania 36.
