Konnan Discharged From Hospital, Tested Positive for COVID-19 and Suffered Kidney Failure

WCW legend and Mexican Wrestler Konnan has been hospitalized and has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. An updated report states that he has been discharged.

The Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer had reported that the 57-year old Konan was hospitalized. Meltzer said that the hospitalization was brought about by kidney issues and that it was “serious”, but he did not provide further details.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter later reported that Konnan was released from the hospital on February 18th. He provided a short comment to let everyone know what was really going on. Things were apparently not good for a bit, but they have cleared up now.

“Was very sick last week was bedridden for three days, I got COVID went to hospital and my kidneys were failing.”

Konnan had a kidney transplant back in 2007. At the time, Konnan said that he believed that the painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs that he had to take during the course of his career had ruined his kidneys. He also had a hip replacement surgery back in 2018.

Another report, this time from Lucha Libre Online’s Twitter, stated that Konnan was positive for COVID-19. They got the news from AAA announcer Hugo Savinovich.

“Konnan has confirmed to us that he, unfortunately, tested positive for COVID-19, which is why he is hospitalized,” reads a translation of the Tweet which is in Spanish.

There is no mention of Konnan’s kidneys on the Lucha Libre Online Tweet, but given that Konnan has had a transplant, he could be considered “at-risk” as kidney problems can weaken one’s immune system.
