WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle will be appearing on the next episode of NXT.
Angle was one of those employees released last month as part of budget cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the company has just announced that he will be appearing on next week’s NXT.
Angle has been announced as the special referee in the Cage Fight match between Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher. The match between Thatcher and Riddle was made after Thatcher, who had initially been tagging with Riddle, turned on his partner.
Thatcher’s turn led to a singles match between himself and Riddle on NXT two weeks ago. Riddle beat Thatcher but, after the match, Thatcher challenged Riddle to another match with a special stipulation.
Thatcher wanted Riddle to agree to a match where the winner would have to either knockout or tap out their opponent. Riddle countered with the suggestion that the match be held in a cage. So next week, the two men will be in a Cage Fight which can only end in a knockout or tap out.
The announcement of Angle’s involvement came as a surprise, not just because Angle was fired, but because it was never mentioned in the show. Instead, WWE announced Angle’s involvement with a Tweet on their official account.
There has yet to be confirmed if Angle’s involvement in this Cage Fight is supposed to be a one-time appearance or if this is a sign of Angle’s return to the company.
Angle was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017, after which he returned to Raw as the general manager. He remained on TV, even having a few matches till he was retired by Baron Corbin in 2018. At this point, and till he was let go, Angle stayed with the company as a producer.
