Kurt Angle Hypes His NXT Appearance, Drew McIntyre Reveals Original Plans For His WrestleMania 26 Match

As we reported yesterday, recently released WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle will be making an appearance during this week’s episode of NXT.

Angle will be the special guest referee for the Cage Fight match between Timothy  Thatcher and Matt Riddle.

Naturally the news has resulted in some speculation about what this means for Angle’s future with WWE. Is this a one-off appearance? Or a sign that Angle might be on the way to being rehired.

Angle recently posted a video on his Twitter feed talking about the match. According to Angle, he had been invited as a special guest referee by NXT General Manager William Regal.

“He came up with an innovative way to settle the score between Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher,” said Angle about Regal.

“It’s a Cage Fight. Not a Cage Match, a Cage Fight, and there are only two ways to win: knockout or tap out,” he added.

Still no word about what this means for Angle’s future with the WWE.

Current WWE Champion Drew McIntyre had his “WrestleMania Moment” this year when he beat Brock Lesnar for the championship. However, according to an interview he recently did, he could have had a big moment earlier, at WrestleMania 26.

McIntyre told BT Sport that he had been scheduled to face The Undertaker that year. However, the match didn’t go through and the Undertaker instead had a rematch with Shawn Michaels.

“The inevitable goal was to have a big match between him and I. Unfortunately, I wasn’t ready at the time. Things worked out the way it worked out,” said McIntyre.

“It led to, instead of myself and Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Undertaker, the retirement match,” he said. “Which was obviously a phenomenal match. I could not have delivered on that level at the time.”
