Matt Riddle‘s arrival on Friday Night SmackDown has opened the door for various possibilities on the main roster. The Original Bro left NXT in a blaze of glory and now that he has officially entered the bigger playground, things are about to get a whole lot interesting.
This past week on NXT, Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle returned to television as the special guest referee for Riddle and Timothy Thatcher’s brutal cage match. The bloody showdown was actually Riddle’s big send-off in disguise.
During a recent interview with Cbr, Angle revealed that WWE had previously offered him the golden opportunity to become Riddle’s on-screen manager.
The Olympic Hero, however, had to reject the lucrative offer for “a few different reasons.” Although Angle would have loved to manage The King Of Bros, it just wasn’t the right time.
“I think that Matt Riddle is going to be one of the faces of the [WWE], he has all the ability. His personality is great. At first, it’s a little odd. But once you get to know him, he’s very likable. And that’s what he’s going to get from the fans.”
“They’re going to love this kid. And he proves it in the ring. He’s phenomenal in the ring. There’s no doubt about that. But his whole bro gimmick thing works really well. And he’s going to do extremely well.”
“WWE has offered me a job to manage him. Unfortunately, I turned it down due to a few different reasons, but I would have loved to manage him. It just wasn’t the right time.”
As previously reported, WWE could soon re-sign Angle to a lucrative contract since Vince McMahon doesn’t want the Olympic Gold Medalist to join AEW. This increases the possibility of a potential Angle-Riddle union in the near future.
