Lio Rush Retains NXT Cruiserweight Championship
A highly entertaining Cruiserweight Title defense between Lio Rush and Angel Garza kicked off the latest edition of WWE NXT from Full Sail.
Right after the bell, Garza jumped into the crowd and ripped off his pants in front of Lio’s wife and children. Rush flew through the ropes and took him out at ringside.
Throughout the fast-paced match, crowd-favorite Garza enjoyed the upper hand, even scoring a nearfall on Rush.
The match finally came to an end with The Man Of The Hour planting Garza with a second Final Hour for a controversial pinfall. The referee missed Garza’s foot graze the ropes during the three-count.
The booking was strong as it not only allowed Rush to retain the title, but it also protected Garza from defeat while pushing the Mexican star as a strong contender for the gold.
Finn Balor vs. Matt Riddle, Team Ciampa vs. Undisputed ERA Announced For WarGames
Finn Balor walked out to cut a promo on the decline of NXT in his absence. He called out Johnny Gargano for being sidelined for three weeks since being on the receiving end of a Pele kick. It is to be noted that Balor and Gargano were to collide at TakeOver but WWE canceled that match since Johnny Wrestling is still dealing with a neck injury.
Just when Balor had called Matt Riddle weak, The Original Bro blindsided him leading to a brawl. The Extraordinary Man fought back and the brawl flowed to the ringside. Riddle made “little putz” Balor flee.
Undisputed ERA came out and circled the ring as Balor watched from near the stage. Just when the heel faction was about to enter the squared circle, Keith Lee and Tommaso Ciampa ran down to Riddle’s aid. A brief exchange of words would lead to Roderick Strong vs. Keith Lee which Blackzilla won.
Post-match, Undisputed ERA attacked Lee; Ciampa made the save but the number’s game proved to be too heavy for the babyface duo.
Dominik Dijakovic ran down to clear house, thus joining Team Ciampa for TakeOver WarGames.
General Manager William Regal later announced Balor vs. Riddle for NXT TakeOver.
