It was announced on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live that WWE Champion AJ Styles will defend his title against “The Artist” Shinsuke Nakamura in a Last Man Standing Match at WWE Money In The Bank on June 17, 2018. Nakamura defeated Styles last week in a non-title match at SmackDown Live and earned the right to choose the stipulation for the championship match at June’s Pay-Per-View.

A few weeks ago, WWE was in talks of holding the huge Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago under the Last Man Standing stipulation. The plan would eventually change as the Creative would add that stipulation to Styles vs. Nakamura for Money In The Bank. Instead, Gargano and Ciampa would be competing in a Street Fight at June 16’s TakeOver.

This is not the first time that WWE has made changes in stipulations due to two similar plans clashing on two shows. There were rumours of a Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 34, but that idea would be scrapped as plans for already in store for a Ladder Match at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans for the NXT North American Championship.

The “loser leaves show/roster” stipulation for Gargano vs. Ciampa at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans was also used for Shame McMahon & Daniel Bryan vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 34. It is quite evident that the main roster Creative is borrowing ideas from NXT.
