Former WWE superstar Matt Cardona (fka Zack Ryder) debuted for Impact Wrestling during Saturday’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view.
Cardona was the surprise challenger for Ace Austin during the event. Austin, who was initially not part of the card, came down to the ring demanding to be added to the triple threat match for the X-Division Title.
Scott D’Amore came down to the ring to confront Austin and offered him a different opponent for the night, who turned out to be Cardona.
Cardona won the match via disqualification after Fulton got involved. Fulton and Austin attempted to beat down Cardona afterward, but he was able to fight them off.
Cardona was one of those wrestlers who were let go by WWE last April, allegedly due to cost-cutting measures brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He had a short stint wrestling for AEW last summer, making a few appearances under a short term contract.
According to Fightful Select, Cardona’s current deal with Impact is similar to his earlier one with AEW. He does not have a full-time contract but was hired to work Hard To Kill and the next set of Impact Wrestling’s television tapings this week in Nashville.
