Zack Ryder (now known as Matt Cardona) won the Intercontinental Championship as part of the multi-man ladder match at WrestleMania 32, in one of the biggest shocks of the night.
This was the first time Ryder had heard his music played at WrestleMania and it was one of the highlights of the show, but the star went on to lose his title less than 24 hours later.
Maryse returned to Monday Night RAW and helped her husband Miz to win the Championship, which left Ryder with one of the shortest reigns in history.
The former WWE star recently appeared on Pro Wrestling Junkies podcast where he revealed that he actually wanted to lose the title on the same night.
“I think losing the next night made the moment. I wish I could have lost it that same night. Why have the title for two weeks or two months? Unless I’m going to go undefeated for two years or something, just take it off me. That’s just the Zack Ryder character – the underdog that finally gets it and then it gets taken away.”
“I thought that’s what made it so special, because nobody thought I was going to win and then it’s like, ‘Oh my God, he finally got something and then he lost it.’ I’m glad that it happened like that with me losing it the next night because it was a perfect fit for my career.”
