Matt Hardy returned to WWE alongside his brother Jeff back at WrestleMania 33 and was able to become one half of the Raw Tag Team Champions. This is a title that Hardy later went on to win again at The Greatest Royal Rumble this year, but sadly these are the highlights of his return to the company.
The former Champion was forced onto the sidelines last month after it was revealed that he was struggling with an injury that had seen his spine fuse itself to his pelvis. Hardy dropped the Raw Tag Team Championships and hasn’t been seen on Monday Night Raw since, with many fans speculating that he had retired.
Hardy himself doesn’t believe that his time in the ring is done and recently as part of an interview with Cultura Colectiva, he hyped up an upcoming show in Mexico City by seemingly revealing that he will be a physical part of it.
“It’s going to be earth-shattering! It’s the only live event we’re doing all year and all the top stars of both brands will be there: Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Ronda Rousey, AJ Styles, me, my brother—everybody! I’m in fact gonna petition to have a Hardy Boys tag-team match even though we’re on different brands. I’m excited for this, man,” he said via Ringsidenews.
He then went on to discuss the plans he has for his WWE return where he likened himself to Bruce Banner when it comes to the fact that he can transform into his Broken character much like The Hulk.
“It’s not 100% decided what I’ll end up doing once I return to WWE TV, that hasn’t been finalized yet. But I’m pretty sure we’ll take a tangent from the Woken/Broken Matt Hardy persona. That persona will definitely live on at the Network, and it might come back out on TV. I feel like when I return to WWE TV it’s gonna be—have you ever seen The Incredible Hulk when Bruce Banner got angry and turned into this green monster?—well, I feel you’re gonna have Matt Hardy and then there’ll be something that causes Matt Hardy to transform into Woken or Broken Matt Hardy.”
