Stephanie Bell, who is mostly known as WWE superstar Mia Yim, has filed a trademark for the ring name “Mia Yim”.
Yim, who is going by Reckoning now as part of RETRIBUTION, filed the trademark for her original ring name herself.
According to Heel By Nature, WWE has an active trademark filing for “Mia Yim” but that could be cancelled this year. The trademark office has allegedly sent a letter to WWE earlier this month asking if they would consent to someone else trademarking the name, but the company has yet to respond.
The reason given for the cancellation of WWE’s filing is because the “applied-for mark consists of or comprises a name, portrait, or signature identifying a particular living individual whose written consent to register the mark is not of record.”
The WWE has until December 11 of this year to provide updated documentation for their trademark filing on “Mia Yim”. They will also need to provide Yim’s signature on the documents indicating that she consents to the registration.
It’s unclear what effect Yim filing for the name herself might have. Yim’s filing includes several screenshots showing that she began using the name professionally in 2009, long before signing with WWE.
It should be noted that WWE has filed a trademark for her new WWE ring name, Reckoning, as well as for the names used by her RETRIBUTION stablemates.
