Last week’s WWE Monday Night RAW featured “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey joining at commentary during the match between RAW Women’s Champion Nia Jax and Natalya. Rousey didn’t sound too compartable and it turns out that much of the blame can be put on the Creative. During the commentary, Michale Cole mentioned Jax remarking that Rousey is ripe for the picking. The former UFC Bantamweight Champion responded with “ripe for the picking is something only my husband calls me.” Although the line was awkward, it became worse when Rousey repeated it for a second time after coming back from commercial.
Wrestling Observer Radio confirmed that the line was scripted and that Rousey would not have come up with that herself.
Dave Meltzer said,
“So the Ronda thing was evidently scripted and that’s probably why the announcers went back and asked the same question twice. Several people [in WWE] have remarked that [it was] very bad judgment putting Ronda in that position, scripted. Clearly, she wasn’t with it. She was so standoffish. It was the wrong Ronda. You can tell she’s not a good actress. When she’s not happy you can see right through it… it was bad creative to put her in a position to sit there for 11 minutes and have nothing to say other than ‘my husband says that.”
It is also reported that there were people backstage groaning at the line.
Ronda Rousey will be facing Nia Jax for the RAW Women’s Championship on June 17, 2018 at Money In The Bank.
