Naomi‘s karaoke segment from earlier this month had drawn criticism from fans and her loss to Lacey Evans on the latest episode of SmackDown led to the birth of the #NaomiDeservesBetter movement on Twitter, and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has had enough of these social media hashtag trends.
On his Hall Of Fame podcast, Booker T noted that although he is a fan of Naomi, he hates to spit out some harsh truth i.e. Trinity Fatu has to earn her right for better treatment on the WWE scene. A push depends on merit and not on some social media trend.
“They can go to hell with all these hashtags as far as I’m concerned. Nobody deserves a chance, alright. First and foremost, you have to earn your chance and your spot on the roster. This is not some movement to just pull somebody up just because…. and I hate to sit here and say this and talk this way because I like Naomi. But, as far as the business goes, you get it on your merit alone. That’s it. It’s no buddy system”
“I say #NaomiDeservesBetter, I don’t think it serves her any purpose, people advocating for her in that way.”
It didn’t take long for The Glow to respond to the 5-time WCW Champion. Naomi tweeted out a Jim Carey gif as a mark of sarcasm.
Shortly after, Sasha Banks threw some shade at Booker T. The Boss advised Naomi not to let the 2-time Hall Of Famer’s opinion get under her skin. The reigning Women’s Tag Team Champion didn’t hesitate to label Booker T’s opinion as “useless”.
Last week, Booker T was involved in an online scuffle with Sasha and Bayley due to his comments about the reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion.
It remains to be seen whether WWE will book Naomi in a more prominent role from hereon.
