The Undertaker faces off against AJ Styles this weekend at WrestleMania in WWE’s first-ever Boneyard match. While the details of the match still remain somewhat blurred, The Deadman appeared this week on Raw to put the final nail in the coffin by delivering a fantastic promo that was well received by many members of the WWE Universe.
While it’s been revealed that Vince McMahon approved every word of the promo that The Deadman delivered, Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer revealed that the lines that were delivered by the former World Champion has garnered him some heat backstage.
It appeared that when The Undertaker talked about how AJ Styles waited to join WWE instead of rubbing shoulders with the likes of The Rock, Mick Foley and Stone Cold Steve Austin, Booker T and Edge back in 2003. Taker stated that Styles knew that he couldn’t hang with the legends in WWE at that time so he decided to wait until they had all gone.
This line seemingly implied that the legends of WWE two decades ago are seen as better than the top stars in the company at present, which has seemingly rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, but as noted, Vince McMahon approved the entire promo before it aired.
While delivering the promo, Undertaker shockingly used the term “ass clown”, an insult when referring to his WrestleMania opponent. Interestingly, that is a term that is more commonly associated with former WWE star and current AEW wrestler Chris Jericho.
Fans obviously called The Undertaker out on the fact that he had stolen Y2J’s catchphrase and The Deadman graciously apologized to the man himself on Twitter, even though the former Champion had already made it clear that The Deadman was free to use any of his catchphrases any time he wants.
