Almost two months after her defeat at the hands of then-NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa, Serena Deeb finally dethroned The Unstoppable to win the prestigious title last night on UWN Primetime Live.
Tony Khan took to Twitter to congratulate Deeb on her landmark victory. The proud CEO of AEW also made another big announcement – Deeb’s first title defense will take place this week on Dynamite.
Deeb will be putting the NWA Women’s Championship against the line against Leyla Hirsch. This will be Hirsch’s first match under the AEW banner.
In 2010, Deeb was a member of CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society. In 2018, she returned to WWE as a Performance Center coach.
This past April, Deeb was fired amid company-wide cutbacks due to the 2019–2020 coronavirus pandemic following which she signed with AEW.
It appears that Deeb’s sudden firing from WWE was a blessing in disguise. Not only did it revive Deeb’s in-career, but she’s among the hottest pro wrestling champions at the moment.
