Nikki Bella Calls Ronda Rousey’s WWE Debut “A Slap In The Face”

Nikki Bella retired from WWE following her loss to Ronda Rousey back at Evolution in 2018 and has admitted that she doesn’t have any issues with the former UFC Champion, but in her memoirs which were published on May 5th, Bella admitted that she thought WWE debuted Rousey in the wrong way.

For months leading up to the Royal Rumble, there were rumors that Rousey would be part of the show, but on that night WWE also allowed 30 women to make history in the first-ever Women’s over the top rope Royal Rumble match. The match main evented the show and was then completely overshadowed by the fact that Ronda Rousey made her WWE debut just minutes afterward and built up her WrestleMania debut.

WWE received a lot of backlash following Rousey’s debut given the fact that many fans believed that the company were overlooking what the women had just achieved. Bella admitted in her book that she felt the same way and called it “a slap in the face.”

“It was nothing against Ronda, it is thrilling that she is at WWE, but it was a bit of a slap in the face to all the historic women wrestlers who had come out for the match, the main event, only to have the moment upstaged by the Ronda announcement.”

Nikki went on to state that she wanted to retire following her performance in the Royal Rumble match but because it was upstaged by Rousey, she had to return and retire from the company at another time.

“It just didn’t need to happen like that,” wrote the former Divas Champion.

As already stated, The Bella Twins and Nikki Bella stepped into a feud heading into Evolution later that year and Nikki was able to retire from the ring in her match against the former UFC Champion, a match that she called “career-justifying” as well as stating that is was a “night worth breaking my neck for.”
