Nikki Bella is a star of Total Diva’s and the longest reigning Divas Champion in history (406 days) but she no longer wishes to be called a “Diva”.
Speaking to Lillian Garcia at a Q&A during the ACE Comic-Con in Chicago, Bella stated that she wants to become a Woman’s Champion at Evolution.
“I need to have a reign that outbeats the Divas championships so I’m not always called a Diva and then one day I can actually be called a Raw Women’s Champion,” said Bella.
Bella is set to face Ronda Rousey for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship at the first all-women pay-per-view, WWE Evolution. Nikki and her twin Brie had actually been teaming with Rousey and had just successfully won a match against the Riott Squad before they turned on the current champ. Nikki was then announced as Rousey’s opponent for Evolution.
“I had to turn on her,” explained Bella. “She’s the champ. I’ve been here for 12 years, she hasn’t, so I have to teach her a lesson.”
Despite holding on to the Diva’s title for as long as she did, she told Garcia she wasn’t exactly a big fan of the Diva moniker – or the pink butterfly belt that signified her status as Diva’s Champ.
“I remember when they brought out the butterfly championship and we were all kind of like, ‘Oh.’ We weren’t expecting it. . . it’s totally cute, but it wasn’t like what women were craving,” shared Bella.
Bella also shared that, as an executive producer on Total Divas, she’s actually tried to bet the “Diva” in the title dropped.
“Unfortunately, it’s on network TV and you can’t just change the name one day. They have felt people will still be connected with it even though it’s called Total Divas,” said Bella.
