New Japan Pro Wrestling has a new TV deal that will allow them to reach a wider audience in India.
NJPW has announced a deal with Eurosport India, a premium sports channel in India from the house of Discovery. The partnership means that starting January 9, 2021, NJPW shows will be available on the channel.
Weekly episodes of NJPW will be telecast every Saturday and Sunday on Eurosport, from 6PM IST onward. They will also broadcast NJPW’s marquee annual events such as Wrestle Kingdom, New Japan Cup, Best of Super Juniors, and G1 Climax.
“New Japan Pro-Wrestling is very excited to partner with the best sporting network in the world to reach out to the Indian audience,” said Takami Ohbari, President and Representative Director of NJPW in a press release.
“India’s passion for professional wrestling is a known fact and with Eurosport, we surely make the perfect tag team to provide some of the best action from the world of pro-wrestling and fuel the desire of the Indian fans,” he concluded.
The Indian audience for professional wrestling has long been considered large and “hungry”. It was recently reported that WWE is pushing through with their efforts to launch NXT India this year to tap into this audience.
