Tommaso Ciampa has been at the top of his game as the NXT Champion and off the back and an incredible title defense against Velveteen Dream at War Games, The Gold Standard has seemingly already got his challenger for Takeover: Phoenix after Aleister Black cashed in his rematch clause as part of last night’s show.

Of course, the route to Takeover won’t be straightforward for Black since The Puppetmaster continued to play his games with The Master Of The Black Mass and set up a match between Black and Johnny Gargano inside a steel cage.

The two men left it all in the ring at Takeover: War Games, but it appears that the two men now have unfinished business and Ciampa took it upon himself to decide that they should collide inside a steel cage so that both men gained the retribution they required.

Gargano was the man who attacked Black in the parking lot back in the summer and took away his rematch for the Championship in Brooklyn, which is why he has been given another rematch clause for Ciampa’s Championship.

So far, there have only been two matches announced for the show, but for fans who don’t follow spoilers, they should stop reading now since the most recent batch of tapings revealed Bianca Belair is now the number one contender to Shayna Baszlers NXT Women’s Championship after winning a fatal four-way match.

Takeover: Phoenix takes place the night before The Royal Rumble in January next year and is the first event of 2018 for the stars of NXT, which is why Triple H is obviously looking to make it a huge event for everyone involved.
