Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne may have only had a handful of matches together as a team, but in Portland earlier tonight The BroserWeights were crowned the new NXT Tag Team Champions. Dunne and Riddle joined forces to compete as part of the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Classic last month, a tournament that the duo were able to win when they defeated Grizzled Young Veterans in the final.

The victory meant that they were handed a match against NXT Tag Team Championship againt Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly at Takeover Portland. The build-up to the match showed that Dunne and Riddle seem to be on the same page when it comes to comedy skits as well as in-ring skill, but it was unknown how the two men would co-exist with a Championship on the line.

Luckily, Riddle and Dunne had an answer for everything that The Undisputed Era threw at them on the night and it was another show-stealing match from NXT’s Tag Team Division. The loss now means that Roderick Strong, O’Reilly, and Fish have all lost their Championships in the past month.

Riddle and Dunne have had success in solo competition since Riddle is a former MMA fighter while Dunne is still recognized as the longest-reigning NXT United Kingdom Champion in WWE history. The two men now open up a new chapter in NXT as the reign of terror revolving around The Undisputed Era looks to be coming to an end.

It will be interesting to see who steps up to challenge The BroserWeights after their impressive and cohesive display tonight in Portland, or whether WWE reverts back to the usual rematch clause heading into NXT Takeover: Tampa at the beginning of April.
