The women were given the tough task of kicking off the first NXT pay-per-view of the year with the finals of the first-ever Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon took on Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai in what was a hard-hitting opener to the show that saw both teams pull out all the stops.
After several false finishes, it was Kai and Gonzalez who picked up the victory after Moon was taken out of the match by the powerhouse when she was pushed off the ramp.
Blackheart was then left in a two on one situation, and after Kai was used as a human battering ram, Gonzalez delivered her patented slam to confirm the victory.
The winners of the Dusty Rhodes Classic not only pick up the trophy but will now be handed a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships which means that Kai and Gonzalez have now put Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax on notice.
The duo which includes the former captain of Team Kick and the powerhouse of NXT were seen as the favorites to win the competition from the beginning and have swept all of their opponents aside with ease.
Blackheart and Moon made this win as difficult as possible, but it could be argued that there were only ever going to be one set of winners in this match.
