Former WWE superstar Shad Gaspard’s body was found early morning on Wednesday at Venice Beach, the LA Police Department has confirmed. Gaspard went missing after being caught in an ocean current on Sunday, while out for a swim with his son and several other individuals.
Patrol officers found a body on the beach at around 1.25 am, and later it was identified to be that of the former WWE star. The Police Department confirmed in a statement that it matched the description and his immediate family were notified of the same.
“The decedent was identified as Shad Gaspard and next of kin was notified”
After being caught in the strong wave, lifeguards at the beach rushed to save him and his 10-year-old son, Aryeh. According to eye-witnesses, Gaspard directed the guards to save his son, and that was the last time he was seen before being caught up in the current.
A massive search was initiated by LAPD on Sunday but to no avail. The rescue mission was called off after a few hours of an extensive search.
Gaspard’s wife issued a statement earlier thanking the lifeguards and the police department for their efforts.
“We would like to express our gratitude to the first responders who rescued Aryeh and to the lifeguards, coast guard, divers, fire and police departments for their continued efforts to help find our beloved Shad”
Gaspard wrestled for WWE until 2010, as one-half of the highly entertaining Cryme Tyme alongside JTG. The duo never won the tag-team championships but received great praise for their work in the tag-team division.
Gaspard found some success in the show business after his wrestling career. He made the news after famously stopping an armed robbery all by himself in 2016, holding down the burglars until the police arrived.
Gaspard is survived by his wife and his son. WWE issued an official statement after the confirmation of Gaspard’s death, while the professional wrestling community has poured out support for Gaspard, who was often mentioned to be a charming individual.
