Carmella has been billed as one of the biggest heel stars on SmackDown Live over the past few years, even going as far as allowing James Ellsworth to climb the ladder for her to win the first ever Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, which caused a huge amount of backlash on Social Media.
Carmella has become well versed as a heel on the mic and was the perfect opponent for the likes of Becky Lynch, Asuka, and Charlotte in recent months, but now it appears that her character has done a complete 180.
The Princess of Staten Island has recently been seen alongside R-Truth on SmackDown Live after it was announced that the duo would be working as a team in the upcoming Mixed Match Challenge.
Carmella has been working as a face ever since she lost her rematch for the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Charlotte and according to CageSideSeats, this is because of the Mixed Match Challenge.
Carmella needs to be seen as a face throughout her alliance with R-Truth and since she doesn’t fit into the SmackDown Women’s Championship picture right now, it makes sense for her to work this character if she steps into a feud with Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega.
Cagesideseats also noted that the plan for Carmella after she and R-Truth are eliminated from the competition isn’t yet known, but it could be based on the reaction that the former Women’s Champion gets in the coming weeks as she comes to terms with her new personality.
It is also unknown as to whether or not Carmella and R-Truth will continue to work together following the Facebook competition.
