AJ Styles retained his WWE Championship against Samoa Joe in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel on Friday night, whilst Brock Lesnar was victorious over Braun Strowman to reclaim his Universal Championship, which has now set up a match between Lesnar and Styles at Survivor Series in two weeks time.

This is a rematch from last year’s Survivor Series event since Styles has held the WWE Championship for almost a year, whilst Brock Lesnar held the Universal Championship from WrestleMania 33 all the way through to SummerSlam this year when he was defeated by Roman Reigns.

The fact that The Beast was victorious over Styles as part of last year’s event means that it’s highly likely that Styles will defeat Lesnar this year because WWE enjoys 50/50 booking.

Lesnar is currently part of a feud with Braun Strowman, so it’s likely that The Monster Among Men will get involved in the match between Styles and Lesnar to begin the build towards a match between the two heavyweights at TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs in December.

This is something that Dave Meltzer discussed recently on The Wrestling Observer where he stated that this could be the plan, but this could weaken the eventual win by Braun Strowman, who is perhaps going to become the new Babyface in the absence of Roman Reigns.

“So AJ and Brock is really interesting because if you look at it from one standpoint they wrestled before and Brock won so in a sense Raw won so they’re doing it again so it should be SmackDown’s turn, it should be AJ’s turn. But, if Vince has Brock lose to AJ, don’t you think that weakens the eventual win by Strowman,” he said via Ringsidenews.
