Dolph Ziggler defends his Intercontinental Championship against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam in less than three weeks time and it’s been hinted that the match may have a gimmick added to it.
Rollins has been the victim of the numbers game with Drew McIntyre and Ziggler in recent weeks, and speculation has also suggested that McIntyre could be added to the match to make it a triple threat if WWE decides to go down that path.
PWMania is currently reporting that WWE could make the match for the Intercontinental Championship a ladder match between the two men, which then takes the disqualification off and allows Drew to interfere in the match on Dolph’s behalf.
WWE’s reasoning could be that it’s 23 years since Shawn Michaels defended the Intercontinental Championship against Razor Ramon at SummerSlam.
This was one of the biggest matches that year and given the fact that Rollins and Ziggler have already collided in an Ironman match means that the company has to find a way to top this for “The Biggest Party of the Summer.”
There is also the added benefit that Dean Ambrose could make his return at SummerSlam as well since he and Rollins have their own history when it comes to ladder matches and he could be there to even out the numbers game if McIntyre decides to try to help Ziggler like he did at Extreme Rules.
It’s an interesting theory since there isn’t currently a ladder match on the card and WWE hasn’t had one in a few months, but given the fact that there are only two episodes of RAW left before SummerSlam means that the stipulation needs to be added at some point in the near future.
