Brock Lesnar successfully retained the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns in a bloody main event match at WrestleMania 34.
Post-match, The Beast threw the prestigious championship gold at Vince McMahon while making his way through the Gorilla Position with Paul Heyman.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed the bizarre heaving of the Universal Title and revealed the possible reasons behind the act.
“Either one of two things. Either Vince and Brock were working everyone because everyone was furious — or Brock was just gonna show that he’s Brock and he’s the alpha and nobody else is.”
“It could be either of those two, because if it was Vince and Brock working everyone and Vince isn’t gonna tell them, the way it went down. I mean, my impression was that it was perhaps that work thing that I said, but nobody else believes that because they believe that it was just Brock and he can do whatever he wants and because he’s Brock he can get away with it and in real life that’s the situation.” -he said via Ringside News
The act generated a lot of buzz regarding Lesnar’s status at that time. While a lot of fans speculated that The Beast’s real-life frustrations with WWE had caused him to toss the big red belt at the CEO, some were of the opinion that it was a work, highlighting CM Punk‘s infamous Pipe Bomb promo that shook the entire WWE Universe and how The Second City Saint got away badmouthing The McMahons during his speech.
Brock is currently scheduled to defend the Universal Championship against Seth Rollins in a month’s time at WrestleMania 35.
Fans shouldn’t expect another rendition of the title throwing segment for The Kingslayer is the favorite to walk out with the championship on April 7, leaving The Conqueror without any ‘disposable accessory’.
