2-time former WWE Divas Champion Paige officially announced her retirement in an emotional speech on RAW After Mania (April 9, 2018). However, a night later on SmackDown Live, Commissioner Shane McMahon declared that the blue brand needs a new General Manager since former manager Daniel Bryan is once again a full-time in-ring performer thus introducing Paige as the new on-screen General Manager of “The Land of Opportunities”.
#SDLive has been and always will be the land of opportunities and second chances. It was my PRIVILEGE to name @RealPaigeWWE as the new General Manager.

Paige, who announced her retirement on RAW the previous night, came out and was widely greeted by the crowd with “This Is Your House” chants in the opening segment of the post-WrestleMania episode of SmackDown Live. She stood in the ring with Shane and officially called her first match as the new General Manager — AJ Styles vs. Daniel Bryan in the main event of the night’s show.
Daniel Bryan had been the General Manager of SmackDown Live since the brand split in 2016. With Kurt Angle replacing Mick Foley on RAW last April (post WrestleMania 33), this is the second straight year that WWE has announced a new General Manager in the fallout of WrestleMania.
