Rey Mysterio has been on WWE’s radar ever since he made his return back at The Royal Rumble in January. Mysterio may be 43-years-old, but the former World Champion proved that he is in the shape of his career when he stole all the headlines at the first pay-per-view of the year.
Mysterio has seemingly been playing a game of cat and mouse with WWE over the past few months since he wasn’t open to signing a full-time contract with the company after it took him so long to garner a release from his contract a few years ago.
Rey’s appearance at All In was said to be his last major experience outside of the company and ever since there have been many reports linking him to a return before the release of WWE2K19 on October 9th.
Reports by PWInsider now are confirming that Rey Mysterio has finally put pen to paper and agreed to a new two-year contract with WWE. It isn’t yet known if Mysterio will return to RAW or SmackDown or if much like John Cena, WWE will allow him to become a free agent and appear on either brand.
There was originally talk of Mysterio teaming with Pentagon Jr and Fenix to create a unique stable on the main roster, but recent rumors suggest that both men are set to remain with MLW which means that this plan won’t be in Mysterio’s immediate future.
WWE has definitely missed the unique brand of personality that Mysterio brings to the ring since Sin Cara’s injury and Kalisto’s move over to 205 Live, the luchador’s in WWE haven’t been represented which could be why the company was eager to bring him back.
