Rey Mysterio made his return to WWE last night as part of SmackDown 1000 and was able to pick up the win over United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura, which meant that he qualified for the WWE World Cup at Crown Jewel.
All eight men have now been announced for the tournament to crown the best wrestler in the world but it appears that Mysterio’s win has also catapulted him into the United States title picture.
Mysterio and Nakamura had a fantastic match last night, but the Master of the 619 still pinned the United States Champion which means that he will be given a Championship opportunity in the near future.
The US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio is now advertising Rey Mysterio vs Shinsuke Nakamura for the Starrcade event on Saturday, November 24th, which is where Mysterio will be given that United States Championship shot.
Interestingly, Nakamura hasn’t been included in pay-per-views over the past few months and this could have been a creative decision to prepare him for what is expected to be a fantastic feud with Mysterio over the next few months.
It is currently unknown as to whether or not Starrcade will be streamed on the WWE Network, but the card is stacking up and includes a Steel Cage WWE Title match between Samoa Joe and AJ Styles, The SmackDown Women’s Championship match between Becky Lynch and Charlotte which is also in a steel cage and a Cincinnati Street Fight between The Shield, Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre.
The SmackDown Tag Team Championships will also be on the line in a rematch from last night’s show as The New Day take on The Bar and Elias is reported to be holding a live concert alongside WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair.
