After several weeks out of the ring, NXT star Ricochet returned to face Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.
Ricochet was last seen in the ring during NXT TakeOver: Chicago II (June 16). The NXT star was reported to be dealing with a minor injury. He was being given time to rest before NXT: TakeOver Chicago II.
The rest period looks to have done him good as he and Cole had a great match that ended with Ricochet becoming the new NXT North American Champion.
Cole, who had been the first ever NXT North American Champion, looked to have the psychological advantage at first. Cole’s repeated taunts that Ricochet was “not special”, seemed to really get in his opponents head for a while.
For one heart stopping moment, it seemed Cole perfectly countered, Ricochet’s high-flying offence, catching his opponent with a superkick as Richochet attempted a moonsault.
In the end, though, Ricochet ignored his opponent’s taunts and launched a flurry of offense that had Cole rolling out of the ring. He wasn’t as safe as he might have thought though as Ricochet flew out of the ring after him with a leaping hurricanrana. Ricochet then got his opponent back in the ring where he then hit a 630 to win the title.
This is Ricochet’s first title in the NXT and the first title change of the North American Title. The title was created and introduced in March of this year. Cole became the first title holder after participating in a ladder match at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans (April 7). Included in that match had been Ricochet, Velveteen Dream, Lars Sullivan, EC3, and Killian Dain.
