Just days before WrestleMania 36, Roman Reigns pulled out of his scheduled Universal Title match against Goldberg and was immediately replaced by Braun Strowman who went on to dethrone The Myth on the night of April 5th.
The coronavirus pandemic and his compromised immune system had been pitched as the major reasons for The Big Dog’s absence from WrestleMania. However, there’s more to it than that.
During a recent interview with Muscle & Fitness, Reigns announced that his wife, Galina Becker, is pregnant with twins. It is to be noted that the interview took place ahead of the Show Of Shows, but the footage has only just been released.
“Three [kids], with two in the oven. I’m looking to be Papa Bear Five. Breaking news, we haven’t shared that.”
Soon after pulling out of WrestleMania, The Big Dog took to social media to clarify his status to the WWE Universe. During the video message, Reigns did mention his family being the primary reason for his absence from the grand PPV.
“All you know is what you think. ‘Oh, well his health’ and this and that, but … you don’t know what else is going on in my life. You don’t know if I have newborns. You don’t know if I have family in my household, older family.”
In October 2018, Reigns relinquished the Universal Championship to continue his battle with returning leukemia. After a 4-month medical hiatus, The Big Dog returned to RAW in February and feuded with Drew McIntyre who he successfully pinned at WrestleMania 35.
Despite his major comeback, WWE kept Reigns away from all title scenarios before re-injecting him into the world championship picture during Royal Rumble.
At this point, there’s no official word on when Reigns may return to WWE programming. It’s safe to assume that the 4-time World Champion will likely stay away from WWE TV till normalcy is restored.
