Last night, Roman Reigns surpassed his fellow colleagues to add yet another feather to his cap.
WWE got its own category in the ESPY Awards this year with Reigns, Ronda Rousey, Kofi Kingston and Becky Lynch in the race.
During yesterday’s ESPY Red Carpet pre-show, it was declared that Reigns had won the first-ever Best WWE Moment award – The Big Dog’s leukemia return in February overtook Kingston’s WrestleMania 35 win, Becky Lynch becoming Champ Champ at ‘Mania, and Rousey’s RAW Women’s Championship victory at SummerSlam.
Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Stephanie McMahon, Seth Rollins and Lynch congratulated Reigns during the Red Carpet event.
“For me to just to be able to be healthy was the only award I needed. This is just so flattering for everyone to kind of lift me up and show me that support system and love from everybody,” Reigns said. “It was never about awards or anything like that. It was just about awareness, it was just about sharing my story and hopefully, someone could use it for a little bit of hope.”
WWE took to social media to congratulate the former Universal Champion on the occasion.
Reigns thanked his fans for voting and standing in his corner during his battle against leukemia.
Last October, Reigns had to relinquish the Universal Championship in order to take a medical hiatus to battle a returning leukemia. The 34-year-old Superstar was first diagnosed with the disease 11 years ago.
The Big Dog’s return from leukemia saw him defeat Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 35. Both men are still engaged in the feud and it doesn’t seem like WWE is going to let them go separate ways anytime soon.
Reigns will be teaming up with The Undertaker to take on Shane McMahon and McIntyre in tag team action this Sunday at Extreme Rules.
