4-time World Champion Roman Reigns is the top Superstar in WWE. He is the face of the company, the top guy, the ultimate babyface and his return from leukemia has put him on an entirely different pedestal in the business.
AEW is just two-event-old and despite the nascency, fans have already started to imagine the upstart promotion giving cut-throat competition to WWE. While competition is definitely good for all, it’s worth considering who the competitor is in the first place.
While speaking to Sportster during a commercial shoot for Lipton Brisk in partnership with his upcoming film, “Hobbs and Shaw”, Reigns claimed that AEW is “no competition” and WWE will always retain the throne through and through.
“I’ll just say this. It’s all so new and it was what it was with Ambrose leaving and popping up over there… Competition? No, there’s no competition. WWE, we know exactly what we’re doing. We have the best talent in the world. There’s no comparing, I say that with firm confidence, all the way from the top to the very bottom. .. We are world class all the way through.”
The Big Dog further called AEW as yet another promotion where wrestlers can get a decent paycheck.
“Is it another option? Sure.” For wrestlers around the world and in the locker room, (even WWE’s) AEW is “another option and another place to get a cheque.”
Reigns added that it’s foolish for fans to compare AEW with WWE or even consider the new promotion as actual competition. The former Universal Champion seems to consider AEW as “just an option” at best.
“I’m never against optimism but I think you have foolish thoughts if you really think there’s a comparison or actual competition. Just an option, which isn’t a bad thing.”
Only time will reveal whether AEW will be able to step up and provide stiff competition to WWE without crumbling under pressure.
