Roman Reigns is the current Universal Champion after he was able to dethrone Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam last weekend and after a fantastic week for the former Shield member, which has included a reunion with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, he now has something else to celebrate.

The Wrestling Observer recently reported that Roman Reigns has managed to overtake John Cena as the top merchandise seller in WWE despite the fact that many of the WWE Universe believe that Reigns isn’t well-liked.

John Cena is the face of the company and has been WWE’s biggest merchandise seller for a number of years. Cena has always been the go-to star for the younger generation of fans and his merchandise sales were one of the reasons why he was able to remain on top of the company for so long.

“They learned from John that people booing you on TV doesn’t mean crap so no matter how much you boo, as long as you buy your tickets,” Meltzer said via WrestlingInc. “As long as he’s gonna sell more merchandise than the other guy.”

Cena hasn’t been seen since April, which could be why Reigns has not only been able to take his place in the company but also his place at the top of the merchandise sales list.

Reigns is heavily booed by the WWE Universe at every live event that he is part of and officials have pointed out many times that the reaction at live events doesn’t mean that he actually is as disliked as many fans realize.

The merchandise sales are perhaps a much more reliable scope when it comes to working out how liked a superstar is and the fact that The Shield have now reunited and already have three shirts available on WWEShop, means that Reigns could remain at the top of the merchandise sales list for a while.
