Roman Reigns Relinquishes Universal Championship, Walks Away From WWE To Fight Against Leukemia

Roman Reigns opened this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW where he addressed the fact that there were injury rumors by confirming that he had been struggling with Leukemia for the past eleven years.

Reigns broke the fourth wall by revealing that his name was Joe and that he had been struggling with the condition quietly but now that it had resurfaced once again, he would be forced to relinquish the Championship and fight his own battles outside of the ring.

Reigns left the title in the ring and made the walk up the ramp where he was joined by an emotional Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose and the trio then pulled off the iconic Shield pose for what could be the final time in a very long time as all three stars fought back the tears.

WWE issued the following statement on Reigns:

“Tonight on Monday Night Raw, Roman Reigns (aka Joe Anoa’i) announced that he is relinquishing the WWE Universal Championship and taking a leave of absence from WWE as he once again fights leukemia, which had been in remission since late 2008. Reigns is taking his battle with leukemia public in an effort to raise awareness and funds for research in order to advance cures for the disease.”

The inevitable result is that the WWE Universe will be getting a new Universal Champion on November 2, 2018 at Crown Jewel.

Reigns will now be away from WWE for the foreseeable future as he battles his own demons outside of the public eye but he assured the fans in attendance in Providence Rhode Island, at the end of his promo that this definitely isn’t a retirement speech because he has his heart set on making a return to WWE and winning back the Championship that he was recently forced to give up.

WWE might be in a problematic situation with Crown Jewel because top Superstars namely John Cena and Daniel Bryan have already refused to work the show and now Roman Reigns has also been sidelined with leukemia.

Everyone here at WrestlingWorld wishes Roman Reigns the best of luck in his battle and hopes that The Big Dog can once again keep Leukemia at bay.
