Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella will main event WWE Evolution in October.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the WWE Creative is banking on the idea of Rousey facing Bella for Evolution to garner mainstream media attention for what’s going to be the first all-women pay-per-view event in the history of WWE.
Rousey created history last night at SummerSlam by becoming the first-ever female superstar to hold both WWE and UFC titles. The Rowdy made Alexa Bliss tap out to become the new RAW Women’s Champion.
Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella are two of the most famous and dominant female superstars in the pro-wrestling industry today and each of them is also connected deeply with pop culture programs.
The idea is that both these women should headline Evolution as each has a huge fan-base than most male Superstars in the company, and when the figures are combined, mainstream attention will go through the roof.
Bella hasn’t been in regular in-ring action since 2017. However, she returned for the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble match back in January and then a tag team match with John Cena against Elias and Sonya Deville at a Madison Square Garden live event in March. Fans speculate that Nikki would have worked the Greatest Royal Rumble had there been female Superstars on the show that took place in Saudi Arabia in April.
As noted earlier, WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus vs. Alexa Bliss has been officially announced for Evolution. The RAW Women’s Championship, SmackDown Women’s Championship, NXT Women’s Championship and NXT UK Women’s Championship will be defended at Evolution.
WWE Evolution will air live from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, New York on October 28, 2018. The finals of the 2018 Mae Young Classic will also take place at the show.
